Practical growth guides for owners

Three long-form guides that teach the core of full-funnel growth: how to find your leakiest stage, how to test changes without much traffic, and how to follow up within Canada's rules.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

These guides are written for owners who want to understand growth well enough to judge any plan, including ours. Each one teaches a single skill with worked numbers and a checklist. Read them in order if you're starting from scratch: first find the leak, then learn to test fixes, then make sure your follow-up is lawful.

Funnel math: find the stage that leaks most

The funnel math guide shows you how to collect five monthly numbers, turn them into four conversion rates, and put a dollar value on improving each stage. A worked example, a home-based caterer used as a template, shows how a faster reply time can be worth more than a 20% increase in traffic, at a fraction of the cost.

You'll learn:

  • which five numbers to collect, and how to count enquiries honestly
  • how to calculate enquiry, response, close and repeat rates
  • how to rank fixes by value per dollar and effort
  • how to write a target and a test window for the fix you choose

Read this first. Every other decision depends on it.

Conversion testing when traffic is low

Most A/B testing advice assumes large websites. The low-traffic testing guide explains, with a simple sample-size formula, why small sites can't detect small changes, and what to do instead.

You'll learn:

  • how many visitors a split test needs at your conversion rate
  • why bigger, research-based changes beat cosmetic tweaks
  • how to run a fixed-window before-and-after comparison honestly
  • how to test messages through ads where data accumulates faster
  • stopping rules that prevent the most common testing mistakes

It follows the four steps of the Conv.ca method: research, strategy, implementation, then testing and refinement.

Following up within Canada's rules

The follow-up rules guide covers what a Canadian business needs to know before sending promotional emails and texts, collecting customer data, advertising prices, or marketing in Quebec or Nunavut. It summarises guidance from the CRTC, the Privacy Commissioner, the Competition Bureau, the OQLF and Nunavut's Languages Commissioner, with links to each.

You'll learn:

  • the four questions to ask before any promotional message
  • how to capture and log consent at the first contact
  • practical privacy habits for small teams
  • why drip pricing matters for conversion work
  • a template follow-up sequence with placeholders

It is general information, not legal advice, and it is dated so you know when to re-check it.

How the guides connect to our services

Each guide matches one part of our work. The funnel math guide is a do-it-yourself version of our growth strategy and funnel audit. The testing guide explains the discipline behind our conversion rate optimization. The follow-up guide reflects how we build lead handling and follow-up systems.

You don't need to hire us to use them. If you work through a guide and get stuck, or the numbers raise more questions than they answer, call, text or email; the contact page explains what to send so we can help quickly.

How we write the guides

Each guide is written by Ali Sedighi, MBA, from the working method behind our client engagements. The worked examples use round, plausible numbers presented as templates, not as client data, so you can replace them with your own. Where a guide refers to a law or a regulator, it links the official source and states the date it was checked.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any software to use these guides?

No. A spreadsheet or a sheet of paper and your monthly figures are enough for the funnel math. The testing guide uses one simple formula you can work out on a calculator.

Are the guides specific to one industry?

No. The examples are written as templates for Canadian small businesses in general. The principles apply to service businesses, shops, clinics, online stores and B2B firms.

How often are the guides updated?

We review them when rules or programs change. Each guide shows its last-updated date, and the follow-up guide states that its regulatory summary is as of October 2026.
